SWS Academic Advising

Academic Advising

The School of World Studies Advising Office serves all SWS majors and minors with various advising needs. Our advising staff is knowledgeable and ready to aid students in regard to course selection, study abroad, other experiential learning opportunities, and future career planning. The main purpose of the SWS Advising Office is to provide effective and consistent academic advising to facilitate successful completion of degrees.

Interested in declaring a major or minor with us? You may now declare a major and/or minor within the School of World Studies using the Change of Major/Minor Form.

Note: Please make sure that you are logged in to your VCU portal before accessing the form.

To schedule an advising appointment with your World Studies advisor, log onto your myVCU and click on the "Advising Appointments" link in the resource section.

Students who have small questions, VA or ARAC forms, and who wish to declare or discuss SWS minors may come to speak with an advisor during the weekly general walk-in hours. Walk-in meetings run no longer than 15 minutes.

Weekly walk-in hours are:

Tuesdays: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
Wednesdays:  1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Fridays: 9:00 am to 11:00 am

Please know all SWS majors (Anthropology, Foreign Language, International Studies, and Religious Studies) MUST complete the World Passport before their graduation applications can be processed. Students may have their Passport points recorded by bringing in documentation (i.e. professors' signatures, fliers, ticket stubs, conference programs, etc.) to the advising office.

Check out the SWS Calendar. Attendance at these events earns points toward meeting your World Passport requirement.

The SWS Advising Office can also help you with career planning and other postgraduate needs. Please contact us if you have any questions.
