Mar M. Góngora is Professor of Spanish.  She holds a Licenciatura in Filología Hispánica from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain (1986), and an M.A and a Ph.D. in Spanish literature from the University of Virginia (1997).  Dr. Góngora investigates Early Modern Literature and Culture.  She has published four books: Los espacios coloniales en las crónicas de Berbería (2013), La apropiación masculina del espacio doméstico rural en textos españoles del Renacimiento (2010), El hombre atemperado: Autocontrol, disciplina y masculinidad (2005), and Discursos sobre la mujer en el Renacimiento español: los casos de Antonio de Guevara, Alfonso y Juan de Valdés y Luis de León(1999).  Dr. Góngora is also the author of numerous articles on Golden Age poetry and prose that have appeared in journals including Bulletin of Hispanic StudiesHispanic ReviewRevista Canadiense de Estudios HispánicosRevista de Estudios HispánicosHispanófilaModern Languages NotesCervantes, Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies, Revista Hispánica Moderna, Crítica Hispánica, Caliope, e/Humanista and Neophilologus.   Dr. Góngora is also interested in the Contemporary Spanish novel.  She teaches a variety of courses on the Literature and Cultures of Spain.
