How to Schedule the actual OPI or OPIc Test - Step 2

Students taking OPI or OPIc oral proficiency testing will need to register and pay for the OPI or OPIc evaluation directly through Language Testing International. Students choose between taking the OPI or OPIc based on the language to be assessed.

Once you have selected either an OPI or an OPIc, please go to:

Click on “Buy a Test” if ordering for the first time, or “Login’ if you have purchased a test in the past, and already have a username and password. Then simply follow the menu to choose the language in which you plan to be assessed, complete the registration, and pay for the respective language test(s) online.

Please note: For the OPI, missed appointments will result in a $55 missed appointment fee.

In the event test candidates need to cancel an appointment, please contact Language Testing at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled start time of the test to avoid any cost.

The Language Testing help desk is available: 8:00 am to  6:00 pm EST
or via email at:

Completing the Process - Step 3

Once a student has taken the placement test or the OPI or OPIc, and the results verified, the score will be entered into the university system.

Students taking a foreign language placement test who do not plan on registering for a VCU course in that language should contact the School of World Studies Advising Office at: to request that the Registrar be notified on their behalf.

For all students completing an OPI or OPIc assessment, the Registrar will be notified automatically once the score has been entered (within one week following receipt of the assessment results).
