Professor of Spanish Mar Góngora, Ph.D., is the 2019 recipient of the John K. Walsh award for her piece “Sobre héroes y monstruos: la decoración de Vélez Blanco y la literatura de su tiempo.” The award is given by La corónica, a journal dedicated to the study of medieval Iberian literature founded in 1972.

Góngora’s article examines “interpretation of the decorative images of the castle of Velez Blanco according to the concept of the hybrid monster that derives from the intellectual and cultural universe of its founder, the Marquis de los Vélez.” Her career has largely focused on the literature and culture of Spain.

Please see the La corónica Commons for more information about this year’s John K. Walsh award.
