Five Questions with international studies major Eva Burcher
March 6, 2026

Eva Burcher is an international studies major exploring the breadth of subjects covered in the School of World Studies while pairing that with her minor in Spanish. Her coursework and study abroad experience in Argentina has inspired pursuits in language justice and language education abroad after graduation.
Why did you choose your major?
I chose my major because I wanted to major in something that dealt with anthropology, sociology and international relations, and was very interdisciplinary.
Favorite class so far? Why?
My favorite class from international studies has been my methods class with Kai Bosworth, Ph.D. I feel so supported by him and he has taught me so much about research and the world, while still making me feel like a peer rather than a subordinate.
In my Spanish minor, my favorite class has been my AfroLatinx studies class with Professor Anita Nadal. In the same way, she is very helpful and passionate, and also has a lot of personal experience to present to the class.
Favorite professor so far? Why?
Dr. Bosworth or Prof. Nadal. They are so knowledgeable and are so kind about it. They make me feel supported!
Most interesting thing in your major's curriculum that you've learned or experience you've had?
My study abroad experience in Argentina or learning about language justice. I think the most interesting thing I've learned has to do with how interdisciplinary the major is. I have been able to explore so many different realms of nonprofit work in order to find the one that I am most passionate about and did not know existed before: language justice for multilingual learners.
What are you hoping to do after graduation? Why?
I want to move out of the country and teach English abroad before eventually returning to do nonprofit work or management. I am currently doing a research project inspired by my study abroad to Argentina, and will hopefully be able to expand that as well.
