Bio

Originally from Colombia, Patricia Michelsen-King is a Federally Certified Spanish interpreter who serves as a consultant to judiciaries throughout the country on the development of foreign language interpretation services. She is the Coordinator of our Spanish-English Translation Interpretation Certificate program and has taught high level interpretation and translation courses for ten years. She also enjoys teaching elementary Spanish courses.

Michelsen-King interprets in federal and state courts including for Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader-Ginsberg and Sandra Day O’Connor. She was on the Advisory Committee for the American Bar Association ‘s “Standards for Language Access in Courts.” She has had extensive experience training court interpreters in 39 states and continues to be a featured speaker at state and national judicial conferences educating judges, attorneys, and court system personnel on properly handling interpreted proceedings. She has developed medical interpreting courses for VCU and a summer course for medical interpreters for the University of Guadalajara, Mexico.
